"Everything about [the] entree proved to be perfect...Lunches were equally impressive."
"Previously, my husband and I had only had the pleasure of eating brunch and enjoying after-theatre appetizers and cocktails at Waves, but were pleased to slip in for a late dinner last Friday night...Waves is a true Racine gem for all who appreciate and wish to support casual fine dining downtown.
...
Our server was very conscientious, making sure our meal was well paced. We really appreciated her unobtrusive attention to our needs throughout the meal. Each course arrived at the perfect temperature. On previous visits we’ve enjoyed the service from one of their long-time staff members (he was behind the bar on Friday). He is one of the finest service professionals in town.
Waves is a great place for brunch on the weekend or for a quiet spot for cocktails with friends– highly recommended..."
"This place is amazing. Negatives: The decor is something i'd expect in grandpa's house: oil paintings of boats or waves everywhere. And, they allow smoking, and it can get smokey because of it's small size. (My husband and i are non-smokers).
Positives: great food and service. most of the waitresses have all the specials memorized (and they have a lot every night). We have eaten there twice now, and everything we've had is superb. i am a smaller eater, yet i always manage to get an appetizer and dessert, because i just can't pass up any opportunity to eat more of their food. The crab-avocado salad with chipolte dressing, the lobster bisque, red beans and andoui sausage soup, the lobster pasta (can't remember the name) and the blackberry reduction duck are all highly recommended. We love spice, and the salad and red bean soup really filled our craving for it in a city we have found lacks in spicyiness -(we just moved here from San Francisco, which, in general, seems to employ much hotter spices.)
The staff learns your names if you come in enough. Despite being very busy on New Year's Eve, the waitresses, the owner, and the bartender joked around with us. I love this place. Hands down my favorite in Racine thus far."
"...I had heard good things about Waves. I was skeptical after looking at their Web site... And even more skeptical after realizing that Waves was in fact that little storefront tavern on 3rd Street in Racine.
Waves vastly exceeded my expectations. It is on par with many Chicago restaurants. Upscale American flair -- nothing fancy but very well executed. Over multiple visits, I've had steak, fish, and braised short ribs and enjoyed every bite. Simple but fresh side dishes, appetizers, and salads and excellent bread (baked in house, or so the owner said) makes it a very satisfying meal.
It's very cozy. And by that I mean tiny, and rustic, comfortable decor with lots of vintage posters...I've never had wine but they seem to have a decent list, and they have a nice little bar with a selection of beers. But the most important thing to remember is that the place seats maybe 30 people. In the frigid days of January and February you need a reservation most nights; the place must be swamped all summer.
To top it off the service is excellent...
Compared to other upscale restaurants in Racine (e.g. Sebastian's, Yellow Rose) I'd have to say Waves takes the cake. I'd make a point of stopping here next time I was in the area."
